Dior
In 1946, Christian Dior opened his first couture house at 30 Avenue Montaigne in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. This was also the time when Dior first forayed into watchmaking. It was the first fashion house to diversify into luxury watches, and their debut watch collection was made by a Swiss subsidiary owned by the American firm, Bulova. By 1975, Dior had launched the Black Moon series, but it was only in the late 1980s that the company truly started creating high- end timepieces under the LVMH Group.
In 2001, the Dior Watchmaking Workshops, the brand’s development and manufacturing arm, was established at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. “Les Ateliers Horlogers Dior” began a decade-long journey into establishing the fashion house as a watchmaker in its entirety. In 2008, the brand launched its first tourbillon, followed by the Dior VIII in 2011. The gorgeous Dior VIII presented the brand’s first “Dior Inversé” caliber with its swinging, openworked rotor on top of the dial.
